Guns and Grits, Oh My!

I am trying my best to stay out of ongoing political debates.  I am happy to support a candidate who in my opinion would be representingShelli Siebert profile issues and ideas that are important to me.  For the record the definition of opinion is:  belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge, a generally held view.  Stick the word my before it and all it means that it is a personal feeling not fact, so an opinion doesn’t mean something is right or wrong, just an opinion.  Keeping this in mind I am better off keeping my strong political views pretty much to myself until now, well sort of.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, or at least that is the jest of the Amendment.  So here is my opinion.  I am happy for  sane, mature, good folk owning and using guns. While personally I am not a gun owner nor do I want to be I will defend anyone’s right to do so, within reason.  I am not a hunter but have friends who do and are quite responsible no judgment here.  However my good people this is where I draw the line.  At Kroger!

The other day I was in the parking lot of our local Kroger, about to go into the store and walking into the store ahead of me I see a ‘gentleman’ walking in.  Said ‘gentleman’ was quite unkempt, talking very loudly and just all around scary and to my shock and horror packing heat…in Kroger!  Now I admit our local Kroger could use some improvements but really do you want someone who carries a gun who may or may not be completely stable going ballistic in the vegetable section, I think NO!  This whole debate over when and where to carry guns has gotten out of control.  Do I think bars should allow people to carry guns, well no? Alcohol and guns do not mix; I don’t think you should carry a gun in church either but that is between you and your God.  But here is my thinking.  If a bar or business allows people to carry then ok, I don’t have to go.  They are not infringing on my personal rights or yours,  just don’t go.  Part two of that argument is that if a business wants to allow or not allow customers to carry a gun that is their right it is your decision if you want to continue to support the business.

Individual rights continue to be a slippery slope no matter what the cause.  We all have our OPINIONS, regarding gay rights, women’s rights, black, Hispanic or animal and the right to bear arms.  No one is ever entirely right or wrong.  As a society and more important individually we should all be more tolerant and open minded I know I try.  Well except for one thing. Grits!  I heard just the other day that the schools will no longer serve grits, some federal so and so has decided they are not healthy. Oh no, call Jessie I see a march in my future!!!!
