Max Adler (1841-1916) was one of the founders of the Strouse, Adler Corset Company, which he had taken over from Isaac Strouse. This was the first corset manufacturer to use steel rather than whalebone for stays. Adler became very prominent in the politics of New Haven. He served on the boards of directors of many of the leading corporations and banks, and was an active leader of the Chamber of Commerce.
