The Congregation Bikur Cholim at 21 Factory Street was built in 1888. It was
the first synagogue in New Haven which was built specifically as a synagogue. The congregation
remained here until 1951 when it merged with the Sheveth Achim congregation, and the synagogue relocated to a converted Masonic Temple on Winthrop Avenue.
