New England tropo and E skip conditions...
What to expect for long distance FM reception in Southern New England

TV and FM DX presents itself in many ways in New England. Spring, Summer and Fall are prime times for tropo DXing. June can be a very good month for DX into the Maritime provinces of Canada, with Halifax FM stations in like locals much of the night.  Fredericton and St. John NB  will come in when conditions are right.  Summer evenings will bring in every Norfolk FM station loud and clear, and when conditions are even better, the coastal North Carolina FM and TV stations will be easily heard.  August and September are known for tropo into the Great Lakes states, and on some evenings Buffalo and Toronto will be local-like.  And sometimes, if you are very lucky, you will hear stations in Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Columbus and perhaps Louisville.

Summer is E-skip time.  Morning  and evening skip openings will give you reception of  many Florida FM and TV stations, much of the Gulf Coast and Louisiana.  Other openings will give you strong signals from Kansas City, De Moines, Tulsa, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston and St. Louis. Other openings will move into Minneapolis, Winnipeg and the Northern Plains.

With a sensitive and selective receiver/tuner, and a decent outdoor antenna located on the roof of a  single story house, scatter reception occurs from Portland, ME, Mt. Washington, NH, Montreal, Ottawa, Utica, NY, Lancaster, PA, Philadelphia and Trenton NJ. Under normal conditions Boston is easily heard although the signals are subject to fade and the New York City FM Stations are also heard, although there may be times in the dead of winter when they become next to inaudible. Many Long Island FM stations are easily heard. Providence FMers are easily heard, as well as Worcester and Keene, NH.

If you want to hear more stations you need to INSTALL A ROOFTOP ANTENNA!
