Music Department "When Music and Courtesy are better
understood, there will be no war." First Congregational Church's Music Department is extremely active both during and aside from Sunday worship. Nathan Bayreuther, the most recent Director of Music at First Church, began substituting for the previous Music Director, Donald Janse, in 1994. In early 1999, Mr. Janse became very ill and sadly passed away later that year. Mr. Bayreuther was offered his permanent position, which he gladly accepted. In March and April of 2002 he was given another part-time position of Director of Musical Outreach. This was part of the church's overall goal of outreach, providing low-cost musical functions to help bring new faces into the church. In April of 2004, Nathan was awarded the certificate of Colleague of the American Guild of Organists. Nathan moved away and resigned in September of 2005. We currently have many members and friends of the church supporting our music program! For some time First Church had been looking into buying a new organ since the old organ had been falling apart and hardly worked (for at least two years, services had to be accompanied on the piano down in front). Mr. Janse had worked very hard, in cooperation with the Music Department, in procuring a new three-manual Rodgers 960 Electronic Digital organ from Marshall and Ogletree Associates. In 1999 the new organ was installed and was dedicated on September 29th to the memory of Mr. Janse. Although it is unfortunate that Mr. Janse never had the chance to play the organ he had worked so hard to get for the church, his dedication to the church, to the music program, and to the Lord has made it possible for others to enjoy this spectacular instrument. Please visit the link at the right to learn more about our Rodgers organ. The church is not only a beautiful and and inviting place for worship; the acoustics are marvelous. We hope to have more musical concerts and performances in the future, and information and dates will be posted here on the website.
