First Church Online Music
Library
*NOW AVAILABLE! SEE THE BOTTOM

The task of organizing
the Music Loft is completed. The major task of putting all the
sheet music into a database is all done. We have hundreds and
hundreds of titles of sheet music that we at First Church would never be able to
completely go through for our own benefit. We are very blessed to have
such a wonderful resource, and we would like to make that available to anyone
who is interested in borrowing some of our music.
The database:
The database itself was created in Microsoft
Excel, and is very basic and very easy to read. There are two main
sections: sheet music, and large choral works, which encompass oratorios,
cantatas, and extraordinarily large pieces.
The sheet music is organized by season
(Christmas, Easter, General), and in each of those catagories you will find the
title of each piece, the composer, the part (SATB or otherwise), any special
remarks about the piece, and a difficultly level based on my own analysis of
each piece of music (level 1 is the easiest, level 3 the most difficult).
The large choral works are also organized by
season. You will find the title, composer, and number of copies.
Below is a sample of what you will get from the "Sheet Music" database:

Here's how it works:
Once the database is completed, it
will be installed on this site. You will then be free to download the
database for your own perusal! Maybe you're looking for a specific piece
of music. Maybe you're looking for music by a certain composer. Once
you download it, you are free to sort the music any way you like!
If you find a piece you would be
interested in borrowing, you can write
an e-mail to me and request it. Based on the piece, we can discuss how
long you would like to borrow it for.
At
this point, the only cost involved is the shipping cost of returning the music
to First Church.
Your
cooperation is expected.
Like
any library, we ask that you return the music once you are finished with
it. If you need to use the piece for longer than expected, of course we
can discuss stretching the lending time. We also ask that you do not abuse
the music and that you return every copy. We hope to make this resource
available to music directors for years to come.
The
First Church Music Library will be opening soon, hopefully within the next two
weeks. Please come back to check often, and be sure and spread the word!
***UPDATE:***
