Mather Byles, Jr.
1757-1768

    He is the son of the Rev. Mather Byles, D.D., of Boston, and great grandson of Increase Mather.  Ordained November 18th, 1757.  Membership at this time is 160.  He is an eloquent preacher, as his father.  He continues the practice of Half-way Covenant.  During this pastorate there is the climax and subsidence of Rogerene disturbances in 1766.  After his resignation, Mr. Byles receives Episcopal ordination in England, and D.D. from Oxford.  Rector in Boston and in New Brunswick, where he dies in 1814.
