Pastorate of Gershom Bulkeley
1661-1665

Interesting note!

Gershom Bulkeley was an able physician and surgeon, and he left the ministry in 1677 to practice medicine in Glastonbury, Connecticut.

Son of the Rev. Peter Bulkeley, the first minister (non-Conformist) of Concord, Massachusetts.  Never ordained as pastor of the church, although the town wished it.  Married Sarah, daughter of President Cauncey of Harvard College.  Became pastor (1667) of Wethersfield Church.

Author of pamphlet, "Will and Doom, or The Miseries of Connecticut by and under an Usurped and Arbitrary Power," (1692); also of a volume on the divinity of the Scriptures.  Inscription upon his tombstone in Wethersfield reads: "He was honorable in his descent; of rare abilities, extraordinary industry, excellent learning, master of many languages, exquisite in his skill in divinity, physic and law, and of a most exemplary and Christian life.  In certam beatae resurrectionis repositus."
