This photo was taken sometime in June of 1968. We were working a plain overlooking the Siagon River, I believe that we were in the area of the Phu Cong Bridge. This area was a hotbed of VC activity and it was loaded with tunnel complexes each of which had to be checked by the tunnel rats. This was the first and only time I ever went into a tunnel to see what it was like it was in a word SCARY. You go down armed with a pistol and a hand grenade and a head lamp. The pistol and head lamp are self explanatory but the hand grenade was to commit suicide because if you used it under ground it would not only take out the enemy but also you.
