The letter "K" is the second number in the metric taper nomenclature.

Example, a taper has a 1:30 rate, that is, it changes 1mm in diameter for

each 30mm of length. The second number, in this case 30, is used in the

formula to find the large or small diameter of the taper when one or the

other piece of information is known.
