First Marking Period:
Individual grades are totaled and divided by the number of assignments for average.
This marking period is handled as one unit (six weeks).
Second Marking Period:
Individual grades are totaled and divided by the number of assignments for average.
This marking period is handled as one unit (six weeks).
Third Marking Period:
The third period is graded for average by totaling the assignments completed and averaged by the number of assignments.
The final average is weighted as 50% the final grade for the marking period with the balance of 50% assigned to the year end final.
This final covers ALL material covered during the sophomore year and is open book, open notebook, open anything. Students are encouraged throughout the year to maintain a complete notebook of homework, handouts, and any other material I provide them. Not surprisingly the student last year who had the most complete notebook scored the highest grade on the final exam.
Work Due By:
All work is due in the shop cycle in which it is assigned. For example, in the first fifteen days of the first grading cycle all work is due (absolutely) before changing to the classroom part of the cycle. Any work not handed in before going to class will be graded as ZERO. Averages are calculated as described above.
Shop Grades
Shop grading is more subjective than theory. This is due to the fact that in addition to quantifiable things (I have been at this too long, I've started using Eduspeak) like specific dimensions, finish and techniques we also have to consider things like work habits, behavior, attitude, and so on.
