Interview With Represent Zine
Represent - How did Die My Will come about?
Brandon - Well all of us have been playing together on and off in different bands since high school. Basically, when Jeff (drummer), Rob (guitar) and me were doing a few reunion shows with a band we had been in, we realized that we really missed playing together. At the time I had written six or seven songs for a band I was looking to start. I played the songs for Jeff and Rob and they loved them, so the beginnings of Die My Will were formed. We still needed a bass player and singer however. Around the time we first started practicing, our friend Todd had just gotten back from Seattle, where he received his degree in Audio engineering. He was looking to join a band and was also in the process of starting his own label (Drawn & Quartered Records). So Todd joined Die My Will and Drawn & Quartered's first release was our debut CD. Everything just worked out well. We initially had a few different singers but the first moved to Georgia, and the second quit because he wanted to focus more on his other band, Earthendesign. So Rob and I started singing out of necessity in the beginning. After a while we got better at it and became more comfortable with the idea of doing it ourselves.
Represent - - How would you describe Die My Will's music?
Brandon - Intense and honest. I say honest because I write about what is meaningful to me. This is not to say that everyone is going to like or is even going to understand what I am saying. The songs come from too much time spent in contemplation on my part. Honestly, I write songs for me, if people enjoy them that makes me feel good, but the songs help me deal with a lot of personal questions and answers I have. As you can probably tell by my description so far, I am really bad at describing our music. It is hard for me to describe accurately what our music is like because I think each person gets a different feel from it. Many people get a totally different meaning of the lyrics than the idea I initially had. But I guess I will tell you a few of the bands that other people have compared us to, maybe that will help: Integrity, deadguy, Botch, Acme, Bloodlet as well as a few others.
Represent - Being from CT, how are you guys different from Hatebreed, Sum of All Fears, 2 X 4, etc.?
Brandon - I think our music style is a little different than a lot of the bands coming out of CT lately. For the most part our music is fast but we don't do a lot of hardcore style breaks. We tend to focus on writing songs that are to the point and say something. We try to cut all the bullshit out. Also I think we have a very broad sound, meaning that each song has its own feel. You still know you are listening to the same band but we don't let ourselves get trapped behind any one style. We don't worry if the part sounds like a hardcore part or a metal part or whatever, only that it is something that sounds good to us. I don't think that we are earth shatteringly different from all the other bands coming out of CT, but like I said before, I just think that we are honest with what we do, maybe more so than some other bands.
Represent - Who have you guys been doing shows with?
Brandon - Brandon - Wow, ahh … we've done shows with so many different bands it is really hard to pick out the ones to list. We have done tons of DIY shows all around the New England area with local bands of all sorts. Against All (Piecemeal), Groundzero, Dead Eyes Under (ex-Fleshhold), All I Ask, All You've Lost, F.T.E., As I Bleed, are a few of our friends bands that we always have a good time playing with. We have played with a lot of bigger bands as well like: Madball, Converge, Kiss It Goodbye, Canderia, Overcast, Hatebreed, Holdstrong, Fury of five, Turmoil and a lot more that don't come to mind right now.
Represent - Do you guys have plans to tour?
Brandon - Yeah we have been talking with our friends in Groundzero, another CT hardcore band, about going down the East Coast as far as Florida for 2 weeks in the beginning of January. Also we may do a tour this coming summer with Holdstrong or another Pin Drop band if things work out. However, nothing is definite yet.
Represent - You guys have a CD and a split 7", how can people get them?
Brandon - Two ways. You can order them through
Drawn & Quartered Records
26 North Main Street Suite-C
Southington, CT 06479
The CD is $8ppd (US) and the split 7" with All You've Lost is $4ppd (US) Send well-hidden cash or checks payable to Todd Reynolds.
Or you can get them through Very, Victory, True Strength, Pin Drop, Lost Disciple, Rhetoric, and other hardcore distros around the US.
Represent - - Who are some of the bands you guys listen to?
Brandon - - Right now I am really into the Acme CD and the new Canderia album. I know everyone in the band really loved Integrity, especially the older shit. The band as a whole has an extremely broad listening taste. We listen to everything from Slayer to Buddy Holly.
Represent - Anything you want to add and how can people get in touch with you?
Brandon - - Yeah, I just want to tell people to keep their eyes open for our upcoming full length CD coming out on Pin Drop Records sometime in the next few months. We are also in the process of getting a webpage up for Die My Will. It should be done in the next few weeks. If anyone is interested, e-mail me for the address. Bands, Labels, Distros, Zines, whatever get in touch! Thanks a lot Dustin for doing this interview with us.
