FORD LIQUID FILLED MOTOR MOUNT
I came home one day to find a big puddle under my wife's 1997 Taurus.
Was it motor oil? Tranny Fluid?
At first I thought a seal on the rack and pinion let go.
Nope, it was a leaking motor mount!
The fluid was brown, almost like water - probably some type of silicone.
Here are some pictures of the motor mount:
The first picture shows the mount with the "weep" holes where the fluid came out.
You could shake the mount and hear the fluid sloshing around.
A new mount does not make any sound.
It took about 10 minutes to get the old mount out, this was probably the easiest to do.
Came out through the passenger side front wheel
well. Bolts were rusty and took a choice
selection of tools. Remember to support the engine and
tranny!
Replacement mounts are made in two styles, fluid filled and solid.
I ended up buying a unit from a Ford Dealer,
because when I got the mount from an independent
it was mis-boxed.
Be sure to either bring the mount with you to match up, or have them show you a picture.
Because the engines are mounted sideways, they will describe the mounts funny.
The right front mount on a Taurus, is actually the passenger, rear mount, off the tranny.
Good Luck.
