INTERFAITH COMMUNITY ACTION OF NEWINGTON -
ICAN
The Interfaith
Clergy Association of Newington and Newington’s Department of Human
Services have collaborated to create Interfaith Community Action
of Newington, a volunteer program appropriately known as “ICAN”.
The ICAN program is created and designed to benefit all of Newington’s
residents, as well as the congregants of all houses of worship, without
regard to the residential status of any such congregant. We are a
participating congregation.
ICAN is intended to complement
and enhance services already provided by Newington’s Department
of Human Services, by drawing upon the willingness of congregants,
such as you, to volunteer your time, talents, and patience to assist
qualifying individuals, especially those who are elderly, frail, or
otherwise in need. Whether it be reading, small repairs or minor
cleaning, shopping for those who are handicapped or homebound, running
errands, providing the invaluable gift of company for those who live alone,
or sharing one of your innumerable talents, your efforts will have a beneficial
and long lasting effect. The frequency with which you volunteer,
and the amount of time you choose to invest are your determination.
At present, ICAN is a well-planned
idea with great potential that exists on paper. But it will
remain so, without any effect or benefit, unless you participate and
bring it to life. Please call or visit our Main Office to obtain
a volunteer application. Further details of the program can
be obtained by contacting Ann Marino thru the Church Office 860-666-4689.
We hope you will find the willingness within you to say “ICAN, and I
shall.”
