April 2000 Rides

April 30: NYC 200K Brevet ride. We rode over through New Jersey up to Bear Mountain, then into West Point. The first part of the ride was done audax style at the insistence of Karl on the ride. This was a good way to ride, since the headwind was so nasty. It is a little more difficult to do when going up and down hills though. After a nice lunch stop right outside West Point (very cool place), we breezed down 9W back to Manhattan. A little nippy out today and very windy. There were around 15 riders, but I think only 10 or so finished officially. Overall, not the most blistering pace on this ride, but still a good ride because of the friendly people.

April 29: Gimbel's ride. A perfect day out today. Big bunch of riders. Did the 109 miles in six hours.

April 27: Nice ride after work. Went up to South Salem then over to the Saugatuck resevoir down into Westport. A little nippy out but a great ride.

April 15: Gimbels rainy ride. Everyone did the short ride so no hills. It was raining pretty hard during parts of this fairly laid back ride. Had to fiddle with my computer for a while and stopped at Dunkin Donuts to warm up briefly. Also got a flat. Rained some more on the way back. Pretty miserable out.

April 8: Rode over to the Gimbel's ride. Very nice day out, although a bit windy. There was a break group which nobody seemed to want to chase with any concerted effort, so they got away. Got in 101 miles in five and a half hours.

April 5: Went over to Greenwich to do the ride from the High School after work. There were about six or seven riders. Nice and hilly sections. Rode a nice and blistering pace near the end. Very windy and nippy out.

April 2: Down on LI for Sunday; rode over to the Early Bird ride. Rode a good pace out to the North Fork. Trevor was pulling for a large part of the ride, which was nice going back into a nasty headwind. Rode down to Brookhaven and Bellport after the ride to get some extra miles in. Kind of nippy out today.

April 1: Rode over to do the Gimbel's ride and of course when going through White Plains I get a flat. I fixed it, but could not catch the pack. Rode a bit with a dropped rider, but the group must have been hauling butt. Finished my 108 miles in 6hrs, so I still got in good time, but almost all solo. A smaller group today (~50); Prospect Park races started today I think.

Total mileage for month - 717.2 miles
