Sarah Lauren's Favorite Steel Strings

"Phosphor bronze - extra light"

"I don't think the brand of strings matters as much as the materials that goes into making them. I heard that most of the name brand strings are made by a half dozen, or so, generic string companies anyway. Remember, the sound of your guitar is a function of the string materials, string weight, and the wooden body of your guitar. Therefore, you're going to have to taylor your choice in strings to your particular guitar, and the style you're playing; most importantly the particular sound you're looking for. The silk and steels, and steels, tend to be the more mello, while the phosphor bronze, and bronze tend to be brighter, twangier. I like the extra lights, because they sound sweeter than the heaver gauges. Use these basic rules, and get yourself a couple of sets of each, test them, most importantly, record them, and see which ones give you the most balanced sound; the sound you want.
