Chieko Iwazaki's Japanese koto Music

Yours truly, in my Kimono

CD Album - Kyoto Breeze Longing. This album contains five songs for a total performance of approximately 45 minute in duration. The album was recorded during 1998, using both state-of-the-art digital and traditional analog technology.

Domo Adigato. In an effort to preserve the traditions of Japanese Koto music, I have endeavoured to create my first CD album - Kyoto Breeze Longing.

I am a native of Japan, mother of three wonderful daughters, and an ardent student of the Koto. Due to corporate commitments, I found myself living in the States for two years until our return to Japan in 2004. It was during a High School field trip to NYC, that I happened upon Dave. Dave who is now a Chemical Engineering Phd fellow, was a student of Japanese. I recorded my first album "Kyoto Breeze Longing" at the Sarah Lauren recording facility complex. Presently back in Japan, I am the principal of a jazz night club in Kyoto we call the Greenwich-House in rememberance of my living in Greenwich, Connecticut.

The Shakuhachi, or bamboo flute. Fashioned by hand from a bamboo stalk, this instrument is capable of a surprising variety of emotional gestures. My husband joined me on one of the songs by playing his Shakuhachi. He has been playing for several years, and greatly enjoyed the experience. In the summer, I returned to my native country; convinced a very old friend of mine, Chikuzen to stop by the Sarah Lauren facility and record another song with me. Chikuzen is a notable Shakuhachi master, who helped me record a second song on my - Kyoto Breeze Longing CD.

If you have ever listened to the Koto, and Shakuhachi together, you will agree with me, that the gestalt is both physically relaxing, and yet somehow eloquently stimulating. You can purchase my CD or cassette album by contacting Sarah Lauren ProductionsThey usually charge depending upon their mood and time of day, but usually around 8-10 American plus shipping.
