Brother Daniel's Battleship Adventure
Daniel's visit to the USS Massachusetts
The battleship USS
Massachusetts
is a huge ship which is tied up at Fall River, Massachusetts. The ship has nine, sixteen inch
cannons.
That means the bullets that come out of the cannons are sixteen inches in diameter. When the cannons last shot, the bullets flew through the air for over twenty miles. The Massachusetts is kept in very
good
condition. All of her parts are covered in grey paint. There is almost no rust anywhere. It's a fun, and interesting time to be able to walk all over the
outside
, and explore the many parts of the
inside.
One of my favorite places was the
machine
guns. Another fun place was high up on the
superstructure.
What a view. I slept on the Massachusetts, with my dad, during our boy scout trip in October, 1999. We slept on the teak wood decks way back in the stern. In the morning, we were rudely awakened as to how much water fog contains. After drying off, we ate breakfast, just like the original crew did back during World War Two. I enjoyed my visit with the USS Massachusetts very much.
