The Ruins & The Driveway

We all have places where we grew up and have fond memories of. Both the Ruins and The Driveway were places we hung out at as kids. The Ruins are the remains of a glorious garden, but over time deteriorated and overgrown. The Driveway is my friend's, and it still is a Hot Rod hangout. It is good sized and circular, so at anytime there are at least three to four Cool Rides there. The list of custom jobs and basic maintenance that has been performed at this location, is too large to attempt to compile.

These pics were taken by various people over a long period of time:

My first real car: A 1976 Chevy Nova with a 250 ci. Straight Six. I bought it for $500 with 75,000 original miles. It was a good backroads car. It was completely stock except for the set of rear springs from a '72 Nova. The wheels were stock 14 inch Chevy Rallyes with trim rings and center caps. I drove it around for a while unregistered (I was a kid then and didn't know any better), and as fate would have it, one week before I was going to register it, disaster struck! I was visiting a friend, when the upstairs neighbor in her Cadillac sideswiped the driver's side from halfway down the door to almost the rear bumper. AAAAHHHHHH!!! There was nothing I could do to since it was unregistered. I learned a great lesson that day! Unfortunately I also lost interest in the car, as it was badly damaged. She ended up being traded for 350 ci. for my El Camino.

The full 1973 Malibu Line Up: El Camino, Coupe and Wagon. I had the El Camino, my friend the Coupe and his girl the Wagon.

The proud owner of the '73 Wagon and me checking out a '74 Monte Carlo I'd co-purchased with the proud owner of the '73 Coupe.

She also owned this '69 Buick Sport Wagon with the Vista Cruiser windows! You can just make them out over the back side window.

Just can't get enough of the '73 front end!

The Camino and the 300 Convertible are mine, the black Impala belongs to the '73 Coupe owner.

Another great shot of the three front ends.

The '74 Monte Carlo (with my El Camino next to it). It looked great with the slots. The swivel bucket and console interior was nice. It had a 350 ci. in it, and sounded great with duals.

What a great driveway pic: The '73 Coupe and the '69 Biscayne both belong to the driveway's owner. The '73 Camino is mine. The '74 Laguna is a friend's and the '72 Chevelle is a friend's girlfriend's car.

A '65 Impala, the '74 brown Monte Carlo, the green '73 Wagon, the (first) '73 Malibu, the very tip of the nose of the (first) '68 Fury III, and the open hood of a '72 Barracuda
