USO honors legend and vice versa
"He is a legend," said Sam Arn.
He is indeed.
Adm. Ulysses S. Grant, USN (Ret.), former Commander-in-Chief Pacific Fleet, was the legendary guest of honor at the dinner that celebrated the 60th anniversary of the USO.
He is 95.
He and his wife, Nina, led a crowd of 300 in a salute to the United Service Organization. (You did remember that's what USO stands for?)
The red, white and blue party at the San Diego Hilton May 25 also honored the six founding agencies of the USO- National Catholic Community Services, Salvation Army, YMCA, YWCA, National Jewish Welfare Board and Traveler's Aid- and gave a USO Special Achievement Award to television newswoman Susan Farrell.
