When using the term 'Ezrin', I'm referring to the Endocrine Control Diet (aka: The Diabetes Type 2 Control Diet) weight loss phase, as outlined in the book by that name. The author is Dr. Ezrin, an endocrinologist. The plan closely resembles a PSMF (protein-sparing modified fast) using real food instead of the protein shakes one usually sees.

The Ezrin plan is not easy. Calorie range is 650-1000 Calories per day, dependent on sex.

It's a ketogenic plan that swings into a low-fat maintenance approach. I followed the weight -loss phase diet for six weeks, while working closely with a local personal trainer to prevent muscle loss. I was fortunate not to lose significant muscle but did manage to trigger a significant starvation response. As a result, fat-weight was regained over the next 6 months while eating a lowcarb (<30 Gms per day) diet of 1300-1400 Calories per day. This was during the winter of '96 and I've never yet been able to achieve a weight lower than the weight I was at during my last day on this diet (160 pounds) I don't recommend this approach for people who wish to achieve permanent weight loss.
