Piedmont Academy's 6th & 7th Grades Class Projects

Sixth grade students in Ms. Elizabeth Davis’ English class have had a bunch of fun learning all about interjections. First, they watched the movie, Hoodwinked and listed all the interjections that they heard. Next, they had to take a fairy tale, nursery rhyme, or fable and give it a “twist” in their narrative writing, as the movie had done. Lastly, they created a shoebox diorama that depicted the setting and main characters of their own story creation. Some of the “twists” included a cyber-jacked Humpty Dumpty, a little mermaid that decided being a fish was more fun than being a human and Little Red Riding Hood who found her perfect friend in the form of the Big Bad Wolf.

Seventh grade students celebrated the coming of fall by learning all about the white tail deer. After an educational PBS documentary, students wrote an informative paper about the habits, diet, and unique varieties of deer found in our country. Then, they had to research a recipe, preferably one with venison that they thought sounded appealing and appetizing. Taking the ingredients and cooking instructions, they then wrote an expository paragraph explaining how to prepare the dish. One student, Malynne Webb, brought in her delicious recipe of Velveeta venison dip and the whole class and Ms. Davis enjoyed sampling.
