This is the classic Hudson's Barometric Inkstand. The Type 1 reservoir has 14
flutes terminating on top in a flattened, fluted disk with a central bulge surrounded by 24 petals or rays. The Type 1 split "Pilgram's Hat" stopple
assembly is made of pewter, with a hinge just behind the top center. This top may be unmarked, marked "Patented June 4, 1861" or,
also, "July 15, 64". The cast iron standards form a Type 1 pen rack, the most common, with three stations for pens.
These standards have a cross brace peaned at each end at the top to stiffen the pen rack. |
