DIAMETER SAMPLING SYSTEM FOR SMALL PINS AND ROLLERS
The system is easily set to any part within the system measuring range. The
operator needs only to set the part hold-in guide, the stop anvil, and the
spacing between the measuring contacts. All settings are easily performed using
sample parts to set the device positions. The system can be easily reconfigured
to a different part in one to two minutes. Once configured an automatic zero
cycle must be performed to set the system to the operating point, and then the
system is ready to measure the lot of parts. Based on the part characteristics
an occasion setting may be done to the system feed angle to produce a quicker
part to part drop time along the inclined feed track.
To perform the lot measurement, the operator must load the lot of parts into the system feed track. Once loaded, the lot measurement may be started. The system will automatically tram a pair of measuring contacts arranged in a mechanical differential mode past the part maximum diameter. The differential displacement will be transduced by a precision LVDT gauging probe. A large number of points will be input about the maximum diameter. A best fit quadratic function will be fit to this data and the maximum evaluated. This value will become the part diameter which will be saved to the data file. Once measured, the part will be escaped from the end of the track into the pan, and the cycle will be repeated until all parts have been measured.
