| Bill: Karen & I share many similarities personally as well as in our family background. We are the same age, grew up in the same Connecticut town and our parents emigrated to the U.S. from countries in Europe: Germany, Denmark and the Czech Republic. We are the first generation in our family to go to college, our fathers had physically demanding blue-collar jobs and, due to their strong work ethic, retired as supervisors. All the women in our family work (or worked) in the education field. Although we are truly Americans, we still carry on some traditions from our parents' native countries, especially during the Christmas holidays. In the midst of our many similarities, we acknowledge our differences and are extremely accepting and open-minded to cultural diversity. |
