What do you like/not like about your
textbook? (these line up exactly with books above - i.e:7th
one is 7th here)
-/ No math/ -/ Not my first choice-picked by a board member/ Glencoe is
bad/ Used Serway in college/ -/ not much/
great reading/ Hewitt-great for concepts, Resnick-too tough, will be changing/
don't like equations before examples/
not enough simple problems to get students started/ easy to read/ -/ I
don't like my text for many reasons/ Giancoli is
good/ -/ -/ Readable/ -/ -/ accuracy, well written/ like them both/ problems
and illustrations-good/ complete, good
explanations, too much on some topics/ Don't like-poorly organized, few
problems-want a new text/ -/ various-PSSC
stinks/ different sequence but well written/ -/ -/ nothing/ lots of problems/
poor editing in Holt/ Giancoli-challenging,
Merrill-not enough depth/ very pleased/

Other info. you'd like us to know
about you.
First year teacher - feels inadequate/ Science Curriculum
Coordinator (6-12) - extra duty/ we have CBL's but no one
here ever hooked them up/
Information for our Organization:
Please prioritize the following CAPT
services (1= not important, 5 = very important):
PIMMS/CAPT Institutes:
Would you be willing to pay more (we
are losing money every year on these)?
Y-27 N-2
Would you be willing to move to a
different location for these meetings?
Y-26 N-1
We are looking at the following -
would you attend at these locations?:
Wesleyan Univ. in Middletown
Y-30 N
Greater Hartford Academy
Y-25 N-4
Choate-Rosemary Hall (this would have to include a price increase)
Y-22 N-2
Would you prefer a different locale
- please list it here and we'll look into it:
Local H.S. - Farmington HS/ UConn- Fairfield County/
LEARN or other RESC
Is there a topic(s) you'd like covered
in one of these institutes? What is it?
Modern physics & particle physics/ Astronomy
and astrophysics/ Modern physics or engineering applications/
electricity demos./ Electricity and magnetism-labs and demos./ more on
CBL's and LABPRO's/
Do you know of any great speakers
for these institutes? Please list them:
Harlow Shapley lecture series - astronomers in their
field of expertise
Do you have a great make-and-take
or demo. you'd be willing to share? Please describe the make-and-take or
demo. and we'll
contact you for details. No responses
What are the best parts of the Institutes?
Make and takes, teacher interaction/ information
that I can bring back and use in my class/ current information,
collaboration, meeting other teachers/ hands-on-activities/ any interesting
lectures connected to the physics I teach/
make and takes/ speakers on current research/ breakaway sessions with keynote
speaker/ keynotes,
make-and-takes, meeting with other physics teachers/ make-and-takes/ make-and-take,
guest speakers are great/
meeting with teachers, learning new methods of teaching, bringing back
ideas to the classroom/
What needs improvement?
Communication need improvement/ better promotions
- get to coordinators so they see the value of sending teachers/
never use most of the make-and-takes/ more relevance to the classroom/
location and time of meetings-I live 2-3
hours away-why not make it a 2 day conference?
Any comments on any topic relating
to physics or our organization:
the organization has done a good job of varying the types of presentations
to meet the needs of the membership/ can't
go in fall or spring (coach) - winter is best/
