We all flew for endless hours in this big bird. I remember climbing into the #4 engine intake, while on paint detail, to play cards with three other guys. How about washing the wings with gunk and sliding all over while strapped to the cable. It seemed that most times on the wash rack ended with a water fight. Did you ever get gunk on your crouch? Man, thats an experiance.
I remember one time when we were flying the cable got tangled in the tunnel and we could not get the meals up to the front cabin. I crawled in the tunnel and removed the cable to the aft compartment and Hank Silva and I untangled the cable. You can imagine what a job that was with 180 feet of cable in the aft compartment.
How about the flight line at Carswell. Maybe these shots will refresh your memories!

1093 & 5700
I flew my first flight on 1093 with Major Fanyo's Crew. It was a 16 hour gunnery mission.
Do you remember this guy? He was the Commander of the 492nd when we were young and wild.
Colonel Jones
The next three photos were made from slides sent to me by Walt Houghton who said that the slides belonged to a base photo lab officer. Someone was about to trash them and he asked me if I wanted them. Of course, I said "YES". In any case, the photos were taken at Carswell, probably in the late forties or early fifties. The aircraft in the air is #1099. You can see the Convair plant to the left of the aircraft lined up on the flight line. I don't know who the picture is of all the Airmen next to #017. If anyone does know who they are, drop me an email and let me know. Enjoy!
