Welcome, with the great big W to Papa Corn's Stake Out Desk.

I'm Papa Corn, One of the last of the sho-nuff for real African-Americans. When the sophisticated and uppity folk over hear at the Astro Times read my stuff on the women point guards on the sport page  http://members.tripod.com/~papacorn/index.html , they hurried up and signed me on. I told them not to bother me with all that race stuff cause I know where it is and I know where it ain't. What they didn't know was my knowledge about computers, networking, and stuff like that. Least not until their system went down and who fixed it? None other than ole papacorn without no letters like M.A., B.S, Phd. behind his name. Now don't yawl worry bout my southern accent...every now and then I splits a verb or two but I got plenty o' common sense.

I heard while washing this rich white man's car bout a SUB $700 COMPUTER. Just like the uppity black folk over here, they wasn't wise to the fact that I have a little 66Mhz home made job hooked up to the www where I go and find out all kinds of stuff in addition to the tidbits of gossip I hear my boss talkin about with his little friends. Anyway, they all were tryin to find out who this African-American lady is who they heard tell had an in with an over sea's manufacture of a cpu chip and mother board that is getting ready to come out with this block buster computer around mid-summer. Unbeknownst to them I know the lady personally and their information is right on.It is a real duzzie. The thing runs at 200mhz, 2.1 gig hard drive, w/512 pipeline burst cache, and 16MB of memory and , don't hold me to this , but a 56Kps and sound card w/ACS 90 speakers. I know its there cause she's got it up and running in her garage on a 4000 hour quality control test. Hot to go with a 3 year off site warranty on all parts. Labor extra. But...for $24 you get a nice service contract! If you're serious about buying black here's your chance! More next issue.

SERIOUS ABOUT BUYING BLACK? HERE'S YOUR CHANCE
Ms. Lisa D'Carlo, computer guru over at PC Online has this to say..."The sub-$1000 PC might be the rage today but Cirrus Logic, Inc. believes it new integrated chip may get the price down to under $700."
"The Fremont, Calif., company will combine
                 audio, two-dimensional and three-dimensional
graphics, and modem capabilities onto a single
chip, separate from the CPU. These integrated
processors are expected to yield desktop
systems by mid-1998 that are priced as low as
                 $700."
HELLO! Is papacorn on the one or what?. I'm putting away my little pennies cause I can use an upgrade. Actually a new computer cause the upgrade will cost almost as much as the brand new super-star that sister-woman is getting ready to unleash in the market place. She already has some nice things out there at under $1000. Shoot me an email and I'll hook you up if you are serious.

Hear tell:That AstroTimes/ BSNNET will be doing a distance learning thing on internet skills like networking to prepare folk for a Certified Professional Program. Why? Cause the colleges and universities can't move fast enough. Too many additional courses or something to get the bodies to the corporations while they're spinning around like tops to get networked. By the time this freshman class graduates all the networking positions may be gone. These guys over here don't want to train no more than 30 people every twenty weeks. First come...first served. The first five courses in the module running one week each? (1) Intro to Networks (2) OSI Reference Model (3) Network Topology (4) Physical Connections (5)Wireless Connection. Its free cept for the book. If you want to get on board email: astrotimes@snet.net and tell them papacorn sent you.

From the Top: Maceo Sloan is the man. A 'Mo House Man' Whether it be telecommunications or investments in Africa. This here AA brother is hot out of Durham, North Carolina. A scion of the original three founders of North Carolina Mutual. I met him when my cousin Malvin Moore, also something they calls a 'Mo House Man', invited me down to the 'Bull City' back in the late 70s or early 80s to cook some spare ribs for the home boys regular Saturday night poker game.Sloan was rather shy then. But boy look at him now at:

Be sure to book mark this page afore you go so you can get the rest of the skinny fore ole papacorn visits the sandman.

Watch this:A network computer (NC) can mean two things.(1) A regular desktop with a networking card (NIC) or a desktop computer without a hard drive that is dependant upon a remote server to operate in a networked environment. Be careful when you shell out front end money on these things. Businessmen, make sure you tack down labor charges for the network on a per job basis unless you are a sucker for back end overuns on labor cause when they get to hooking up the software they ALWAYS RUN INTO TROUBLE. Mostly on platform compatibility.

AOL Ups Prices: When I was a stomp down rookie with this internet thing I signed up with AOL mainly because of the spam mail received by snail post (regular post office). Steve Case and the boys over there were O.K. at the time. I ended up paying around $150 every month for the service. Hello. Steve's philosophy? If you see a sucker bump his head. In addition to having a bunch of TOS (Terms of Service) operatives running through your email, if you switch Internet Service Providers (ISPs) your mail will not be forwarded to you because AOL does not have forwarding provisions! Why? Case and company have now upped the price on the service to $21.95/mo. This flagrant flouting of power seems to be paying off for these less than honest sham artist. AOL Subscribers. Learn what you need to know to surf the web and get the hell out of there. It will get worse. With AOL stock rising to just over $100 a share due to the price increase it makes for a good investment right now. This guy is going to make a few mistakes over the next couple of years in trying to push the market price up. What goes up must come down! It won't be a very good investment then. It won't be long before Case gets a lesson in life! Think I'm blowing smoke? Bookmark this page and surf on over to http://www.aolsucks.org/

Ophra's Flick "The Wedding" about ready to come on and papacorn just loves those flicks with the 'Bigger Thomas' base. Where they portray, like they did in Native Son and Color Purple some mean black man running amok like a maniac molesting somebody or acting the ass while the white dude rides in on a trusty steed and marries or woos the buxom lass.Seems like folk would get tired of that same ole same ole. Don't it?So happy viewing folks.

Wheee Doggie! Back from the 'Ophra flick'. Yeah. They did it to us agin. Po lil rich black girl and broke white knight. Black dude ( Bigger Thomas..you know ) who is actually a nice looking guy according to some of the women folk roun here. Manhandles the white wife and backs his car over his daughter.Keeps a perpetual 'Bigger Thomas' frown on his face. Outside of that age ole story line the flick might have been pretty decent if it wasn't for those 10 minite commercials. No info on the white dudes family and less on 'Bigger'. I could have swore it was a soap opera. Hallie did o.k. on a poorly written and directed screenplay. She is one good-looking child. Even so, once these sisters hit hollywood they seem to lose all sense of reality or feel the necessity to make brothers look bad. Hell, they raised us.

Why Gramma approved of the girl marrying what the folks back then called 'trash' I will never know. I was 13 years old in 1953 and I know of some similar situations down in Virginia. I fully understand why Hallie fell in love with him with her color struck ass...but the logic of gramma's approval escapes me totally.Take away the commercials and the thing wouldn't have lasted more than an hour and a half. Reverse the situation and let Bill Cosby produce a thing like that and sisters all over the world would have been protesting at the white house and throwing molotov cocktails at the studio.

Papacorn's opinion: 1 star with the small S. I'm Out!
